What Color Plate Carrier Should I Get? | Most Useful Color/Pattern

Plate carriers are among the best-recommended load-carrying chest rigs in the world. The gear is far more superior to other cheap options with limited applications in the field. However, choosing the right plate carrier color is as important as selecting any gear. It helps display your field superiority and make you camouflaged in different conditions. Therefore, 

I recently posted a poll on several websites to get ex-military and civilian personal’s opinions regarding the topic. Here is what I found:

Different plate carrier color options:

The number of color choices offered by tactical gear manufacturers is huge. You can get a tan or camo in any custom color you like. However, each color has its own elegance and field benefits. Therefore, I will provide the folk’s opinion as gathered in my polls.

Other colors:

Winner: Multi-cam Plate carrier color.

Black:

Black is the top-rated plate carrier color in all my poles. People love black-colored gear due to its simplicity and light-absorbing abilities. The low visibility of black carriers is potentially useful for night missions and low visibility areas. However, the black color is not useful for Urban missions during the daytime. According to experts, black boots are always the first thing that the observer spots.

Coyote tan:

Coyote tanned plate carriers are the best choice for outdoor missions, especially in the forest. The brownish mud color creates the perfect invisibility cloak for the wearer. Moreover, the coyote is a universal color that fits perfectly in every environment. In fact, military folks recommend using a coyote tan even for woodland airsoft missions.

OD Green:

Professionals widely use OD green plate carriers for several reasons. It is more successful than many camos in different environments. Moreover, the OD tan creates the perfect night cover for nighttime missions. This color goes well with any outfit and creates the best gear combination with most camos. In short, OD green is perfect for those who want camouflage without camo colors.

Multi-cam:

Multi-cam is by far the most popular plate carrier color for both civilians and professionals. It is the best camo that melds with the soil and brown trees. As a result, the multi-cam works as the best invisibility cloak even in broad daylight. This color also performs the best in the IR spectrum and absorbs most colors. According to the poll, several hunters belongs to Texas prefer multi-cam plate carriers for hunting in the forest. 

Camo Urban or Wooden:

No one likes urban or wooden camo, even military persons. Ex-military folks state that the least preferable color was the camo, but that’s all the choice they get. They said you have a choice; we didn’t choose any color but the camo. With that being said, urban or wooden camo is not effective in the field.

My recommendation:

According to the poll results and my personal preference, multi-cam is the best plate carrier color for multiple environments. It is the least visible color in the IR spectrum and provides you all the camouflage that you need in the field.
